Linear Accelerators (LINAC)
Quasar has a proud history of supplying waveguide components for oncology machines, specifically Linear Accelerators (LINAC), for decades. These components are manufactured to precise customer specifications, ensuring compatibility with the unique designs required for LINAC systems.
Waveguides in LINAC systems are used for transmitting high-frequency electromagnetic waves that power the machine’s radiation delivery process. The reliability of these components is crucial, as LINAC systems are used in cancer treatment, where delays or malfunctions can directly impact patient care, as well as be costly to the hospital.
Two years ago, Quasar conducted a comprehensive product review to update its waveguide components to a standard compatible with high vacuum systems. This transition supports the industry’s move away from using SF (Sulphur Hexafluoride), a powerful greenhouse gas, previously used to pressurise waveguides for handling high power. The updated design ensures that the components operate effectively in vacuum conditions, aligning with environmental sustainability goals whilst maintaining the high reliability required for oncology applications.
The repeated orders over many years demonstrate the consistent performance and quality of these component in high-reliability applications.
